This determines whether the licence can move at all.

- Type slmgr /dli and press Enter
RETAIL means the licence can be reactivated on changed hardware. OEM_DM means it is tied to the original motherboard and cannot move.
Step 2: Run the Activation Troubleshooter
For a Retail licence linked to a Microsoft account, this is the fix.
- Open Settings, System, Activation
- Click Troubleshoot
- Choose the option confirming you changed hardware recently
- Sign in with the Microsoft account holding the licence
- Select this device and click Activate

Step 3: Reinstall the key directly
- Open Command Prompt as administrator
- slmgr /upk
- slmgr /cpky
